Consistent Engagement
You will have regular touchpoints to review contracts, decisions, risks, and upcoming issues so nothing gets missed.
This gives your business a rhythm of legal oversight instead of waiting until a problem becomes urgent.
Fractional General Counsel
Ongoing legal leadership with consistent engagement for business owners who need protection, clarity, and a lawyer who actually shows up.
Meet Matthew R.J. Knych
I serve as fractional general counsel to business owners who need consistent legal leadership without the overhead of a full-time in-house team.
Before founding Freedom Shield Legal, I served in senior legal and compliance roles and have built and advised multiple operating businesses. I understand the realities founders face because I have lived them — contracts under pressure, risk decisions in real time, and the need for clear, practical counsel.
My role is not to react after problems arise. It is to stay engaged, anticipate issues, and provide steady legal leadership that allows clients to operate confidently week after week.
Who This Is For
Fractional General Counsel is designed for business owners who are growing, operating, hiring, contracting, collecting, negotiating, expanding, or managing risk — but do not yet need or want a full-time in-house lawyer.
What Fractional General Counsel Helps With
The goal is not to create unnecessary legal work. The goal is to keep the business protected, organized, and moving forward.
How the Engagement Works
You will have regular touchpoints to review contracts, decisions, risks, and upcoming issues so nothing gets missed.
This gives your business a rhythm of legal oversight instead of waiting until a problem becomes urgent.
Day-to-day legal guidance for contracts, compliance, employment matters, operational questions, and strategic decisions is provided within the scope of your engagement.
You are not hiring a stranger for one-off advice. You are building a relationship with counsel who understands your business.
Issues are identified early, strategy is shaped in advance, and outside counsel is coordinated when needed so you can stay focused on running the business.
The purpose of the fractional model is to move from reactive legal firefighting to proactive legal leadership.

What Sets Freedom Shield Apart
Freedom Shield Legal is not built around six-minute increments and vague legal memos. It is built around practical leadership, proactive communication, and business-minded advice.
We believe in liberty, hard work, faith, family, responsibility, and building something that lasts.
We think like business people, not just attorneys. Legal advice should help you make decisions — not paralyze you.
We speak clearly, directly, and practically. You should understand your options, your risk, and your next step.
We proactively protect your business from legal and operational threats before they escalate.
You deserve counsel who knows your business — not a stranger billing in six-minute increments every time you ask a question.
Important Scope Note
Fractional General Counsel services are provided on a subscription basis and are advisory in nature. Litigation, court appearances, extraordinary disputes, major transactions, specialized tax matters, securities matters, intellectual property prosecution, and other out-of-scope matters are handled separately if needed.
Final subscription-based pricing and scope may be tailored based on business complexity, expected workload, responsiveness needs, and legal involvement required.
