About Matthew

Attorney. Entrepreneur. Operator.

Matthew R.J. Knych is the founder of Freedom Shield Legal. He helps business owners, families, churches, and nonprofits make important legal decisions with clear, practical counsel.

Before founding the firm, he served as General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer, and Corporate Secretary of Shamrock Home Loans—supporting roughly 200 employees across 21 states—and earlier as an M&A tax consultant at KPMG. As an entrepreneur himself, he knows legal decisions affect budgets, operations, and long-term plans.

Matthew earned his Juris Doctor, Master of Laws in Taxation, and Master of Business Administration from Suffolk University. He also holds a Master of Science in Taxation from Bryant University, along with a Bachelor of Arts in Politics & Law and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting.

His practice includes fractional general counsel, contracts, estate planning, real estate and landlord-tenant matters, and counsel to churches and nonprofits. He is licensed in Florida and Rhode Island.

Outside the practice, Matthew enjoys time with his wife, Lauren.
